Made with hand-picked greengages, this traditional conserve celebrates the delicate, naturally sweet flavour of this much-loved heritage fruit. With its fruity character and gentle tang, it’s a delicious addition to your conserve collection. Our jams and conserves proudly contain no artificial flavours or preservatives, and the fruit is all lovingly hand picked.

Greengages were popularised in England in the 1720s by Sir William Gage, after whom they received their English name. In the 19th to Mid-20th Century they were regarded across Europe as the “elite of the plum world” and celebrated for their rich, honey-like dessert flavours and jam-making. Their cultural footprint remained strong through mid-century works like Rumer Godden’s 1958 novel The Greengage Summer. They began to fall from mass production in the 19th and 20th centuries because the trees are finicky to pollinate, have a very short harvest season, and the fruit bruised easily during modern mass-market shipping compared to sturdier varieties like the Victoria plum.
Through our Greengage Conserve we hope to reintroduce an old historical favourite which unfortunately fell from commercial favour. Long live the greengage!
